Gospel Seeds

Matthew 13:3-9 teaches us about soils & seeds. The four types of soil represents the various types of hearts we encounter in people. A lot of people allow the worries and trappings of this world to choke out the Gospel message. But the good news is that when the Gospel message falls on fertile soil, it take roots and produces an abundant crop!

Notice in this story how the sower spread his seed indiscriminately. He probably knew that some was falling on bad soil, but he didn’t care because when what seems like ‘bad soil’ to the human eye, could actually turn out to be fertile soil producing an abundant crop.

In today’s modern world, most farmers are careful with where they plant their seeds. Many of them use high-tech equipment with GSP trackers to drop the seeds precisely where they believe it has the best chance of producing a harvest. You may wonder why farmers don’t just broadcast seed everywhere. One reason for this precision planting is that many farmers don’t have unlimited access to seed. They need to accurately place the seeds in the correct spot to gain the highest profit they can from their crop.

This is different that the Spiritual World. God owns an unlimited number of “spiritual seeds”. The more seeds we spread, the more we have available! This is why believers are called to spread “Gospel Seeds” indiscriminately wherever we go. We aren’t responsible for the outcome. We’re just called to be obedient to scripture!
